Your Face Doesn’t Fit – Choosing Sunglasses for the Summer

Wayfarer glasses? Geek chic glasses? More conventional? Looking good in a pair of sunglasses is not something that everyone can achieve without a bit of forethought.  There are some that can quite happily put on any pair of sunglasses and instantly look good.  Unfortunately, that is not so true for most.  How many times have you thought “those sunglasses really don’t suit you” as you passed someone when you were walking down the street?  Just because Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie can make them look good, does not mean that you will.  Don’t be put off though, they do have the advantage of having a team of style guru’s around them that are paid to tell them exactly what they can and cannot wear.  You, on the other hand, just have to apply a little style know-how.

Shaping up

When it comes to shape, one key aspect is to choose sunglasses that are the opposite shape to your face.  For example, if you have a square-shaped face, wear a pair of sunglasses that are more rounded.  Contrast is important here and doing this will accentuate the features of your face.

 Size matters

When it comes to size, you have to be brutally honest with yourself.  Do you have a large face?  People that have large faces most often suit large sunglasses.  If you have a large face and you choose a pair which are too small, they are really only going to make your head look over-sized.  Just as equally, choosing a pair which are too big will make your head look as if it struggling to hold itself upright.

There is also an “art” to choosing glasses for smaller faces.

These first to points only apply to the majority of people for the majority of the time.  You may well be someone who has a particular feature that you want to draw attention to.  To accomplish this, all you will need to do is the exact opposite.  Therefore, large sunglasses on a small face will emphasize the smallness.

 Hair up or down?

Something else for you to think about is the style of your hair, and this can apply to both men and women.  You might often wear your hair in different styles depending on your mood or on the occasion, or simply by what you are wearing at the time.  Of course, changing your hairstyle can also change the shape of your face, so these factors need to be considered too.

The latest thing

Lastly, as with all things modern, fashion has a big part to play in the way that you and people dress, and as certain styles of glasses become the latest thing and others become outmoded, there is often the want to stay en vogue.  Consider this too when choosing your next pair of sunglasses.  Does the latest fashion in sunglasses flatter your face?  You must remember, there will always be the classical styles you can choose that will never go out of fashion.  These come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes so there will be something to suit everyone, even if the latest trends do keep you in the shade.
